Timeline

Store redesign, then technical ownership: Mar – Oct 2026

Core stack

WooCommerce, Payments, Security

A great product catalog deserves a great shopping experience — that was the first brief from Stratus Infosystems, a Cisco Meraki reseller serving US and Canadian entities. We reworked the store UI/UX, and the engagement grew into acting as the platform's technical lead and webmaster: payment reliability, infrastructure security, search engineering, tax compliance and AI-forward commerce, coordinated with the client's managing partners and a distributed dev team while the WooCommerce store kept taking orders.

What we did

Key contributions

01

Commerce Platform

Catalog, cart, checkout and product pages for a large hardware-plus-licensing catalog — Meraki switches, routers and firewalls — with hardware-to-license compatibility logic and SKU bundling. Rebuilt category and filtering systems, steered the architecture toward headless WordPress, and handled a checkout outage as a first-priority production incident.

02

Payments & Multi-Currency

Untangled a conflict across eight simultaneous payment gateways — mismatched payment IDs, failed refunds, unreliable captures — hardened Stripe across both national entities, and stabilised USD/CAD pricing with payment-link and card-authorisation invoicing plus eCheck/ACH.

03

Security & Infrastructure

Led the emergency response to a compromised production store: traced a web shell and a persistent reverse-shell backdoor, removed more than a hundred rogue admin accounts, rotated every secret, locked down SSH and web ports, and delivered a NIST SP 800-61-style incident report with a clean-rebuild plan. Then fixed a failing security audit by introducing Git, moving production to Laravel Forge and storage and CDN to DigitalOcean behind Cloudflare.

04

Search Engineering

Re-architected site search on MongoDB Atlas under a formal, expert-reviewed spec: autocomplete with typo correction and synonym handling (Wi-Fi 7 / 802.11be), at feature parity with the industry benchmark.

05

Tax, Compliance & CRM

Integrated TaxJar reconciled against QuickBooks, fixing multi-jurisdiction errors such as Canadian GST/PST splits; built a Zoho CRM order sync with custom-field mapping across Business, Government, Education and Nonprofit segments.

06

AI Enablement

Shipped a rule-based cart recommendation engine for required-license and attach logic, and a conversational, inventory-aware product assistant on product pages. Raised AI-crawler readiness from a 3/100 baseline with schema markup, llms.txt and Cloudflare AI Crawl Control; delivered WCAG accessibility and the GA4, Meta Pixel, Make.com and Zoho Analytics stack.

Outcome

Payment instability eliminated across eight gateways and two currencies on a live store, a production compromise contained and documented to NIST standards, an audit-failing stack modernised, search rebuilt to industry parity — and AI commerce features that deflect presales questions and drive license attach rates.
